Investors add equity mutual funds, Despite a weak equity market in May, where the Nifty 500 corrected by 2.6 per cent, retail investors continued to add equities to their mutual fund portfolios. Investors put in Rs 14,016 crore in equity oriented, balanced and ELSS funds, a little lower than the Rs 14,671 crore in April 2018.

“Retail investors are confident of the long-term Indian story and continue with their SIPs. Within equities there is some reallocation between largecap and midcap funds as investors use the correction to move back to their asset allocation, ” says Radhika Gupta, CEO, Edelweiss Mutual Fund.
Rising bond yields continued to worry long duration fixed income investors which lead to outflows from debt funds. Debt funds saw outflows of Rs 67,559 crore, of which income funds and liquid funds saw outflows of Rs 20,407 crore and Rs 46,700 crore, respectively.
Rising bond yields saw investors selling long-duration bond funds. These outflows from debt funds saw the industry losing ₹50,000 crore in May with assets under management coming down to Rs 22.60 lakh crore.
